History of ACT
ACT began offering shelter to victims in 1979 with a capacity of 15. Expansion at our Fort Myers shelter now permits a maximum of 69-beds and includes a counseling center for outreach and a rape crisis center for survivors of sexual assault.
In order to meet the need in rural areas, ACT has advocates working in Glades and Hendry Counties to assist these victims. March of 1998 ACT built a second shelter in the City of Cape Coral which has 22-beds.
In total, ACT now has 91-beds in Lee County and is working to open a shelter in Hendry County.
